Bonfire Night 4 Nov. 19.30

Dear friend,

Cafe International will be holding its 'Bonfire Night' at Widcombe Baptist Church tomorrow at 19:30, with food (hot dogs) being served at 20:00. If the weather is good enough then we will head out for a short walk at 20:30 to view some firework displays (after a short talk inside) and if the weather is poor we will stay inside for a slightly longer talk.

Whatever the weather, we will get to have fun with some sparklers!!

Also, a number of people said that they would be interested in coming to a group that will look through the Bible. The group will be informal and will be looking through 'The Gospel of Mark' to see what Jesus claims about himself.

If you are one of these people or would be interested in coming along to the group, please e-mail us so that a group could be organised.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

We had some yummy cream tea!

Many attendants from this event told me they enjoyed the cream tea very much afterwards, especially the clotted cream. If this is your first visit to England from the far East, you might find many types of cream in this country. Here's the basic definition of different types of cream: (Wikipedia)

We had a great re-opening night!

On Sept 30th, Café International officially re-opened with a welcome buffet and talk on British culture on 30 Sept. We all had great fun and learnt a lot about British culture. I met many friends from my home country, and felt excited to see people from other parts of the world such as China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, etc. It was great to hear those new international students' expectations about their life in England and studies. I was like that 2 years ago! ;)

We'll have a traditional English Cream Tea evening next time! Can't wait!!

Cafe team warm up!

After a few months break, we were back to the Cafe tonight. We were very excited, but I missed my friends from Cafe who have gone back to their home countries. From this term, we have Keith and Matt with us. We're looking forward to working with them. We had great fun chatting and playing games such as table tennis - around the table, and Wii game (Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.)

I enjoy working with these lovely people again, and welcome Keith and Matt. Hope you enjoy it, too.

Jérôme from France ('06 up to now)

I joined cafe international in 2007. I was a bit reluctant to go in the beginning, but after I started going, I couldn’t stop. I met a lot of people there. We had great fun meeting and playing with friends. Tuesday evenings are "meeting friends" days for me. Also because this is for international student, we met people from all around the world and discover new life style. Sometimes, the new lifestyle comes into your life (I met a Taiwanese woman at café who became my wife in July this year). Café has great fun every week.

Also if you are interested, you can learn more about Christianity and if you feel like, why not going to church on Sundays.

I enjoy my time in Cafe International (Grace '06 up to now)

I came to Bath in 2006 for my Master degrees. Just before Christmas, I received an email from Cafe International via university mailbox. There was a place I could learn more about British culture and make friends! With curiosity, I visited "Cafe" at Widcombe Baptist Church. I've met a few good friends since then and it's also where I met my husband. ;) When I was struggling with my dissertation, friends from Cafe prayed for me, and helped me with my English. When I was desperate for a job, they prayed for me again, and gave me suggestions. When I was excited preparing my wedding, friends from Cafe International gave me lots of support. I can say coming to Cafe international has been one of the highlights in my life here. Here's one of the photos I love the best from the cafe event. (out to Swansea in Cardiff 02 June 2007)

For Cafe International from Irene ('06-'07)

I was an international student who did a master degree in the University of Bath from September 2006 to September 2007. During my stay at Bath, I was glad that I had an opportunity to join the International Café. Joining the International Café was just amazing. A variety of activities were held nearly every Tuesday in the International Café. From there, I learnt different cultures around the world and enjoyed yummy food from exotic countries. Sometimes we played exciting and interesting games. More importantly, I met many friendly people there and made friends with other students and local residents, and thus I had more chances to practice English with native speakers. I really had a wonderful time when I was in the UK. It is all because of International café!

Irene Liu

Some words from Candy ('06-'07)

I am a former member of the Café International at the Widcombe Baptist Church in Bath from 2006 to 2007. I joined this organisation few months later after I started my school life as a master student at University of Bath. The best thing about being part of the Café International is that I could get to know lots of interesting people from different countries and walks of life. We had lots of fun by playing many ball games or chatting and catching up with friends every Tuesday evening there. I also remember many of the special events, like Christmas and Chinese New Year, we spent together at Café. They have been the greatest memory of my UK life since I graduated and left UK last year 2007.
